Customer care used to be such an arduous task for consumers. And indeed, it was awfully silencing. If you had a problem, concern, or complaint, you had to locate the appropriate 800-number, call during the regular business day when you were probably also at work (how many lunch hours wasted!), memorize long phone menus, make a choice, sit on hold, get transferred, sit on hold some more, and then, by the time you finally got to talk to someone who could supposedly help you, you still hung up feeling like your words fell on deaf ears…

Women still hold the majority of Community Manager positions, although men are making gains, accounting for 39% across the U.S. This is a marked move towards gender neutrality compared to 2010, when just 31% of Community Managers were male, according to the annual Community Manager Report from Social Fresh. Their data shows that CMs might be more mature, or at least a bit older, than the stereotype indicates: the average age of a CM was 29 in 2011, but expected to reach 32 in 2013…
You can read the full back story here, but briefly: A couple days ago, an Applebee’s waitress posted an image of a receipt (see: right) on the social network, Reddit. The receipt had a note from a customer complaining about auto-tip and how she “gives God 10%,” so “why do you [the waitress] get 18%?”
After word hit the streets about the receipt, the customer (who turned out to be a pastor) called Applebee’s and demanded the waitress be fired for violations of guest privacy due to the signature on the receipt…
